Bali 2014: Day Thirteen – Slow Day in Sanur

So I awoke a little groggy this morning – not too sure why.  I am sure it had nothing to do with the Scotch I was drinking with Fredy, Dean and the rest of the crew last night! Nor the 1am bed time!

I have a feeling today will be a bit of a slower day for us (well me at least – a certain wife managed to stay sober last night!).

BREAKFAST

Ah this will make me feel better – we wandered across the road and went to Sand Bear Club and Restaurant for Breakfast.  This is the closest place on the beach to the Semarandana and they usually do quite nice meals. I opted for the Farmers Plate (some bacon and egg will help) while Dan went for the Egg Ranchero.  Washed down with a nice pot of Bali Kopi and Juice.

Breakfast came to about Rp. 169k – I wasn’t feel particularly “fresh” so decided to head back to the hotel to rest a little and perhaps drink some water.  Danielle though being the lovely wife that she is – decided to use this as an opportunity to go to the South Sanur and explore a little (she is so caring like that!).

MORNING TEA

For morning tea darling wifey popped into Dusk Blue Coffee Shop to enjoy a quick bite to eat and a drink.  She sampled the Walnut Carrot Cake and a Lemon Squash (total Rp. 65k) to help fill the void between Breakfast and Lunch.  Lovely little setting at the café – they also have lots of funky little gifts and products you can buy.

Since she was in the area (her words) darling wifey took the opportunity to stop in and check out Utama Spice.  I am sure you have heard me drone on in the past about this place – Utama Spice has a fantastic range of skin care products that are all natural.  They make fantastic gifts for friends and family back home as well as some great products for yourself as well.  We are particularly font of the “Bug BeGone” insect repellent – it works well even against Balinese Mozzies.

So Danielle decided to do her best to help Utama Spice to the tune of about Rp. 600k ($60AUD) but for that amount you do get quite a bit of product.

….meanwhile I decided the best way to alleviate my post-drinking issues (totally not a hangover) was a quick massage up with the lovely ladies of Black White Beauty Salon and Spa – Just a quick 1hr Massage @ Rp. 100k and I was feeling fantastic.  These ladies are wonderful, the facility is very clean and professionally run.  I feel for the other massage places in Sanur because I can’t help but just come back to these guys every time.

LUNCH

Feeling much better I was suddenly hungry so arranged to meet up with Dan again and grab some lunch at Warung Little Bird.  We have wanted to try this place for a while – purely because every time I walk past at night it is chocked full of people and usually with a line outside.

Dan opted to go for the Nasi Goreng Ayam and I decided to break with tradition and try something different on the menu and went with the Ayam Goreng Lalapan.

Something different for me - the Ayam Goreng Lalapan, in essence Fried chicken with sauce...however was very tasty and a nice change from my usual Nasi Goreng meal.  Serving size probably a little small for me but otherwise great.

The meals were well cooked and fresh, thankfully we were kind of outside the normal lunch rush times so pretty much had the whole place to ourselves.  Meals were quite reasonable, including some drinks and some “fried potato” entrée to start the total only came to Rp. 138k

After lunch we just wandered back to the hotel and decided to laze by the pool for a little while before heading out to grab some dinner later on.

DINNER

We had arranged to meet up for a drink with a fellow travel blogger – Anna from Anna’s Perth and Other Ventures.  It is always nice to meet up with a fellow traveller and we have followed Anna’s adventures online before so was nice to finally meet in person.

We decided just to head to Casablanca for a drink, usually more of a late night place – they tend to have live bands most nights.  Met up with Anna for a couple of drinks and afterwards couldn’t be bothered finding somewhere else to go for dinner so just ate at Casablanca.

I went with the Pork Spare Ribs and Dan the Chicken Schnitzel – all told for drinks and dinner the bill was Rp. 347k.  Meals at Casablanca are nothing spectacular – what I would classify as good pub food.  That said they have always been tasty and fresh so can’t complain.  I do find it is the kind of place you would go to later at night, most of the live bands don’t start till after 9pm.

On our way back to the hotel we were passed by a quintessential Balinese Experience:

That is what I do love about Bali – the wonderful synergy between the old world and the new;
